Ralph Lauren readies four new collections
By Carole Sloan -- Furniture Today, September 30, 2001
NEW YORK — NEW YORK — The opulence of city living, and the casual airs of country or seaside décor, are part of four new collections for October from Ralph Lauren Home.
The furniture will be in the Henredon showroom at the upcoming High Point market.
Beekman, a neoclassical, elegant lifestyle, features furniture of generous scale with elaborate carvings and embellishments. That contrasts with the simplicity of upholstery covered in white cotton twill and accented with pillows, rugs and throws in shades of brown and white.
In one Beekman bedroom is an Empire-influenced sleigh bed with carved poppies on the scrolled mahogany footboard and headboard. A second master bed, a dramatic four poster, is contrasted with a settee covered in white cotton twill.
Throughout Beekman, elegance and dramatic scale are portrayed. Pieces include marble-topped, fluted mahogony Regency servers, an opulent gilded Regency armchair, and an overscaled Ming cocktail table with elaborate carvings and a pierced mahogany apron. Further adding to the grand scale are library cases featuring hand-carved Edwardian mahogany detailing and Restoration glass doors. But the grandeur is tempered with a wing chair covered in white twill.
In Mecox Bay, a relaxed, casual lifestyle, wicker furniture and crisp white upholstery are contrasted with a color palette of bright shades of turquoise, lemon, tangerine, magenta and ultramarine.
Important furniture pieces include the Somerton four-poster bed with bold carvings and turned posts inspired by the British Colonial period with a painted white finish. Another play on white understatement is a classic camelback sofa covered in white canvas.
In another casual statement, Sagaponack features rustic pine and woven rush in chairs, a cocktail table in a modern mood, chaises covered in suede and a settee in the signature white cotton twill.
