Lilly named Serta chairman
By Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, September 30, 2001
ITASCA, Ill. — Ed Lilly, president and chief executive officer of Serta since 1990, has been named to the additional post of chairman of the bedding producer's board of directors.
He is the first Serta president to hold the chairman's post as well. Traditionally, the head of a Serta licensee has served as chairman.
The chairman's slot had been vacant since the July retirement of Charlie Schweitzer, who had been president of Sleepmaster LLC, Serta's largest licensee.
In a related move, Guy Boyle, recently named chairman and CEO of Sleepmaster, has been added to Serta's board. Other licensees on the board are Burt Kaplan, co-chairman of Serta Chicago; Larry Kraft, president of Serta Detroit; Curt Crowther, president of Serta Salt Lake City; Stuart Bennett, president of Serta Landover; and Alva Moog Jr., president of Serta St. Louis.
The only director not affiliated with Serta Inc. or a licensee is John Malmo, a veteran advertising industry executive and consultant who lives in Memphis, Tenn.
