Metal bed source Carolina Furnitureworks to debut
By Jeff Linville -- Furniture Today, October 7, 2001
Hickory, N.C. — A new manufacturer of upscale metal beds and occasional tables, led by industry veteran David Hunsicker, will debut at the High Point market this month.
Carolina Furnitureworks plans to ship initial orders early in the first quarter of 2002.
Hunsicker, the company's president, said several North Carolina-based furniture designers created the looks of the bed and table introductions. The product is offered in plated and painted finishes and uses intensive handwork to create dramatic effects, he said. The pieces are forged, cast and pre-assembled overseas, then assembled, finished and packaged in the company's facility here.
Tables will retail between $500 and $1,000 while beds will range from $2,000 to $3,000. He said the beds would be more upscale than most other metal beds at market.
Hunsicker, who most recently was merchandising manager for case goods at Broyhill for three years, has 30 years of experience in domestic furniture sales and merchandising. He worked 14 years at Southern Furniture of Conover, nine years at Lane and six years at Simmons.
He said quick delivery of both standard finishes and special orders will be the company's paramount goal.
"Our customer base will be upper-end retailers and well-established design firms," he said. "The objective is to create a limited base of retailers who support the line and can market it profitably."
Carolina Furnitureworks will exhibit in the new Plaza Suites building on Main Street, Suite 1-611.
Hunsicker will work out of the sales office in Hickory.
