AVB/BrandSource convention views new TV ads

Orlando, Fla. — More than 1,500 members of AVB/BrandSource rocked with the Beach Boys at a private concert wrapping up the buying group's three-day annual convention here.
Delivering an energetic keynote address was former Olympic gymnast Mary Lou Retton, who spoke about the similarities between achieving success in business and athletics.
BrandSource, formerly Associated Volume Buyers, unveiled its network TV advertising campaign for the rest of this year. The dealer identity branding program will include new commercials for the group's three product divisions: furniture, appliances and consumer electronics. Ads will tout BrandSource dealers as "the neighborhood experts."
"We are emphasizing the service, selection and value that only an independent retailer is able to provide," said Bob Lawrence, BrandSource executive director.
Suppliers featured at the two-day "buy fair" at the convention included Ashley, Lane, Broyhill, Powell, Wambold, England, Shaw Rugs, Cal-Lighting, Guardsman and Leggett & Platt's Fashion Bed Group. Bedding suppliers included Simmons, Sealy and Spring Air.
Simmons was named the 2001 Supplier of the Year, based on service to dealers, quality and salability of product.
"Over the past year, Simmons has been a leader in product innovations with its 'no-flip and Olympic Queen mattresses," said Michael Allen, BrandSource general manager for home furnishings. He said the new products, and Simmons' dealer support and marketing campaigns, "have given our members major increases in bedding sales."
Current AVB/BrandSource members plan to open five SleepSource specialty bedding stores. Locations are Fife, Wash.; Longmont, Colo.; Great Bend, Kan.; Sioux City, Iowa; and Newberg, Ore.
BrandSource also said it has an agreement with New York-based 1-800 Mattress to fulfill Internet and telephone sales of Simmons products. BrandSource dealers will receive and deliver sales made by 1-800 Mattress under its www.1800beautyrest.com Web site and its 1-800-Beautyrest telemarketing number.
