Drexel to debut two Lillian August eclectic bedrooms

High Point — The Lillian August Collection, produced by Drexel Heritage, will add two eclectic bedrooms at the October market in English country and 18th century French styles.
Designer August said she drew inspiration for the groups, English Country House and The Chateau, from historic country residences of England and France.
"These houses are such ideal blends of extraordinary elegance, exacting quality and comfort," she said. "At the same time, they represent the epitome of gracious, family centered life — the beautiful home as center of a well-ordered universe."
A highlight of the English Country House group is a bed with an antique-style metal canopy adorned with crown caps and reeded posts. A bombé armoire reflecting English tastes for Dutch Colonial designs has an elaborately scalloped, embellished pediment and lavish carvings.
While The Chateau features many pieces with sumptuous curves, deep carvings and parquet table tops typical of Louis XV style, the keynote piece is an upholstered bed based on the more linear and refined Louis XVI style.
Mahogany finishes predominate in the English group, while the French bedroom features caramel, cherry and other finishes.
Scales for both collections are moderate.
"We love and create oversized furniture, but the scale of our designs is not baronial," said Michael Weiss, design partner at Lillian August Studio. "We design for those who live in gracious but not always high-volume spaces."
The Drexel Heritage showroom is at 1925 Eastchester Drive.
