Simmons will show at Grandover in Oct.
By Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, September 9, 2001
ATLANTA — Bedding major Simmons, which closed its High Point showroom two years ago, will show in a temporary space during next month's furniture market so it can unveil a revamped Beautyrest line for 2002.
Simmons officials stressed the company has no intention of returning to a permanent High Point showroom, but said the temporary space — a ballroom at the Grandover Hotel in Greensboro, N.C. — is an excellent way to show the new flagship line to a large number of retailers.
"We made a commitment to come back to High Point only when we had something significant to show dealers," said Don Hofmann, senior vice president of marketing.
Since Simmons exited the market in 1999, most other major bedding producers have followed suit. Of the 10 largest manufacturers, only Sealy and Kingsdown, both of which are based in North Carolina, still have permanent market showrooms.
Hofmann said Simmons has rented the ballroom for two days, Oct. 19 and Oct. 20, and will be providing shuttles from downtown High Point. He said 35 to 40 sleep sets will be on display.
