NHFA, AFMA explore PR link
Retailers eager to tie in with $1 million media efforts

HIGH POINT — The National Home Furnishings Assn. and the American Furniture Manufacturers Assn. are looking for ways to work more closely together, in part to get a bigger boost from AFMA's media campaign.
At a meeting last month in Vancouver, British Columbia, the NHFA board discussed ways to leverage AFMA's $1 million public relations effort by coordinating NHFA member retail advertising efforts with the AFMA program.
The group heard from Jackie Hirschhaut, AFMA vice president of public relations, who discussed the PR effort, and from Albert Prillaman, president of AFMA and Stanley Furniture, who presented AFMA's vision and talked about ways the groups could better work together.
"The AFMA has a great program in the public relations media material they're putting out," said Steve DeHaan, NHFA executive vice president.
"One of the things we'd like to do is keep our membership more informed, so that if a local newspaper runs something from AFMA, an area retailer will know that it's coming," DeHaan said.
