Latex Foam opens temporary plant

ANSONIA, Conn. — Latex Foam Products, whose principal manufacturing plant here was destroyed by fire in May, has opened a temporary latex fabrication and distribution facility in the nearby town of Naugatuck, Conn.
The 33,000-square-foot facility, officially known at Latex International Northeast, allows the company to fill the majority of orders from mattress industry customers on the East Coast within normal lead times, said Latex International President Steve Russo.
"We moved quickly to establish our interim facility because we wanted to ensure that any gap in customer service was as minimal as possible," he said.
Russo said raw latex foam is being imported to the Connecticut site and a sister facility in Los Angeles, but said the company is absorbing the increased cost without raising prices.
Chris Miller, plant manager at the Ansonia facility before the fire, is operations manager at the temporary site. About 25 employees from the Ansonia plant also have been rehired.
Russo has said the company intends to rebuild the Ansonia plant, but a timetable has not been set.
