Companies aid players with bedding

SPOKANE, Wash. — National Furniture and Perfect Rest Bedding are again supplying a place to sleep for local minor-league baseball players.
Last year, Jim Hanley, National Furniture's sales manager and a season-ticket holder of the Single-A Spokane Indians, learned that some players were sleeping on floors in cramped apartments.
"Players at this level do not make very much money — less than $1,000 a month — and cannot afford decent living conditions," said Hanley. He contacted Perfect Rest, a division of Emerald Home Furnishings, about providing beds to players. National Furniture delivered beds last July.
This summer, National and Perfect Rest offered 13 beds to the players. Hanley plans to store the beds this winter so the players will have them next season as well.
"Maybe this little gesture will help the boys' quest to make it to the majors," he said.
