FMCA marks 40th year, elects Curtis president

KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. — Members of the Furniture Manufacturers Credit Assn. heard from speakers and elected officers at their annual meeting here in late September.
High Point-based FMCA, which has members from 115 North American furniture manufacturers, also celebrated its 40th anniversary with letters of congratulation from former President Bill Clinton, North Carolina Gov. Mike Easley, both of the state's U.S. senators and all of its members of Congress.
In addition to business meetings, the group had a volleyball tournament on the beach, an awards banquet, and a reception honoring its outgoing president, Jim Bumgarner of The Joseph Dean Co.
Officers elected including Beverly Curtis, Vanguard Furniture, president; Paul Purcell, Pulaski Furniture, vice president; Mona Stuckwish, Berkline, secretary; and Jim Bumgarner, treasurer.
Derick Apple of The Joseph Dean Co. won the R.K. Rudicil II Award for Excellence, the FMCA's highest honor, as the year's outstanding credit executive in the furniture industry.
