Powell appoints four to VP positions
By Jeff Linville -- Furniture Today, September 23, 2001
CULVER CITY, Calif. — CULVER CITY, Calif. — Importer Powell has appointed four vice presidents in its merchandising department as part of a restructuring of that staff.
Andrew Cohen, president and chief operating officer, said, "The new structure of our merchandising team will allow us to continue our efforts to diversify our product line and meet the needs of our customers."
The move includes integration of Powell's stepup division, Generations for the 21st Century. The division's better-quality goods attracted more retailers and helped the company grow, Cohen said. Having done its job, the division is being pulled back under the company name as Powell Limited.
John Conrad has been named vice president/merchandise manager for Powell Limited, which features fully assembled bedroom, casual dining, occasional and home entertainment furniture. Conrad joined Powell in January from Lane, where he was director of contract sales.
Katheryn Cook was appointed vice president/director of international operations. She previously was Powell's merchandising coordinator.
Katie Hatch has been appointed vice president/merchandise manager for Powell Beds, Powell Kids and Powell Home Entertainment. Hatch joined Powell in 1993 and most recently was a senior designer. This segment of the business has been growing rapidly in the past year, the company said.
Heading Powell's main product line is David Walker, vice president/merchandise manager. He is in charge of accent furniture, jewelry armoires and the new Life Chest line. Walker joined Powell eight years ago from Dearden's, a Southern California retailer.
All four report to Sean Slack, executive vice president for merchandising and marketing.
