HIGH POINT — HIGH POINT — Several industry events linked to premarket here and the casual furniture show in Chicago were postponed or canceled last week in the aftermath of terrorist attacks.
A City of Hope golf/tennis tournament and a WithIt walk, both set for Sept. 12 at the Grandover Resort in Greensboro, N.C., were postponed. A new date for both events will be announced soon, said Tiffany Mullis, chairperson for the WithIt walk and brand communications manager for Vanguard.
The third annual SoHo Today conference, "Strategies for Growth," was canceled. The event will not be rescheduled this year but will be held in 2002.
In addition, several special events at the International Casual Furniture & Accessories Market in Chicago were canceled. They included the Design Excellence Awards breakfast, the Apollo Awards banquet and the Retailer Education Day, as well as other parties and social events.
The show's board, the Summer and Casual Furniture Manufacturers Assn., canceled the activities "in respect for the victims and their families" but opted to hold the market, which took place at the Merchandise Mart, Sept. 12-16.
Voting for the Apollo awards took place Sept. 15, with the winners to be announced later. The winners of the Design Excellence awards were announced without a ceremony.
