FORT LEE , N.J. — FORT LEE , N.J. — Rug major Couristan has kicked off a year-long program to celebrate its 75th anniversary. The centerpiece is a series of four Floor Coverings from Around the World "passports," each featuring one of the company's four basic commitments: Trust, Style, Quality and Innovation.
In addition to learning about products and history, retailers can register for Couristan's "Magic Carpet Ride" dealer-appreciation contest and take advantage of several promotions throughout the year.
The first passport includes a commemorative mouse pad depicting a best-selling design from the Kashimar rug collection.
Couristan was founded in 1926 by brothers Basil J. and George J. Couri. The company is still operated by the Couri family. George Couri is chairman and Ron Couri is president and chief executive officer.
The company initially imported hand-made Oriental rugs from Persia, now Iran. Today, it imports both hand-made and power-loomed rugs from Asia, India and Europe.
In addition, Couristan markets high-end residential and commercial broadloom. The company owns broadloom manufacturing facilities in England and Ireland and distributes both rugs and carpeting from a 155,000-square-foot warehouse in Dalton, Ga.
