One of a kind and programmed Afshar tribal rugs from Iran's Kerman province represents diversification move for this traditional importer. • Essential Elements is a group of modern and contemporary designs made of 100% New Zealand Wool in muted earthtones, $599.

• Royal Sensation features transitional designs in soft earthtones with silken highlights. Made of New Zealand wool and art silk yarns, $799.

• Geo is a group of textured, solid color geometric designs. Manufactured of olefin on state-of-the-art "precision yarn placement" equipment which creates maximum density, texture and clarity of design. Earthtone palette, $99.

• The Regal collection is a million-point rug machine made in Belgium of 100% Exellan polypropylene. The light and airy transitional designs are interpreted in a palette of warm pastels, $299.

• Central is also adding another million-point eight-color collection with the look of traditional 160-line hand-tufted rugs. Of polypropylene, the yarns have the look of high-end rugs made of wool and silk, $299.

COLONIAL MILLS 5A6

• Spring Meadow collection features chenille polypropylene yarns that resist water, moisture and mildew. Reversible, oval braid construction, $320 in 5' by 8'.

• Botanical Isle is made of 35% chenille polypropylene and 65% nylon. The oval braid is reversible and available in bright, space-dyed colors, $320 in 5' by 8'.

• Seascape is a rectangular rug featuring colorful horizontal braiding patterns. Braided of 80% polypropylene, 10% cotton and 10% polyester yarns in a fresh pastel palette, $560 in 5' by 8'.

COMPANY C 10C7

Company C introduces the Tobey Statehood collection, designed by folk artist Molly Nye Tobey. The group is based on the artist's hand-hooked rugs depicting every state in the nation. The Tobey project began in 1943 and was completed in 1961. The originals are in the Shelbourne Museum in Vermont. $125 for 4' by 6'.

COSTIKYAN 5E14

Costikyan Carpets, in collaboration with Patterson, Flynn & Martin, adds eight new designs to the handmade rugs in The Frank Lloyd Wright collection. Manufactured in Nepal, the collection consists of 60-knot, 100- knot and silk and wool handmade Tibetan rugs, $2,800 to $5,500.

• New patterns are added to Le Jardin petit-point wool collection of botanical designs, $2,800.

• Five designs are added to the Kent collection of Tibetan wool and silk rugs, $4,700.

COURISTAN 6D11

• The Highland collection is handknotted in the nubby Tibetan weave and features a selection of open geometric and abstract designs. A blend of 70% Tibetan and 30% New Zealand wools provides the rich and silky surface appearance, $1,238 in 5'3" by 8'6".

• The Chobi collection is handknotted of hand-spun, vegetable-dyed wool on traditional horizontal looms. The distinctive Turkoman tribal knot and high luster wash gives these rugs a distinctive appearance that combines tribal constructions with sophisticated styling. A dense multi-stripe pattern in op-art effect is added, as well as stone-washed denim coloration in classic Peshawar design, $1,599 in 5'6 by 8'.

• Gem collection adds a new Tree of Life design in a rich Bordeaux red. Machine made of New Zealand wool, $699 in 5'5" by 8'3".

• Fantasia is a Victorian design added to the power-loomed Mirage collection. Cross-woven in colors of curry, black, plum and sage fits with both contemporary and transitional settings, $799 in 5'3" by 8'6".

DLS 4AD

Tapestry and chenille fabrics are combined with carpeting or flatwoven sisal in a custom design collection. Solid color chenille fabric is used to create geometric shapes that float in a field of plush carpet. Designs use striking color combinations such as pumpkin and curry with eggplant and avocado, silver and pewter with chocolate. $999 to $1,379, depending on design.

EBISONS HAROUNIAN 5F5

• Long known for its traditional styling in hand-knotted imported rugs, Ebisons Harounian is entering the contemporary design field with the Paradise collection. Large-scale designs combining geometric and organic motifs. Handknotted in India, $1,699.

• Reflections is a group of adaptations of antique Agra, Mahal and Sultanabad designs in a gold and bronze palette. Handknotted of wool. $1,599.

• Tatar collection is handknotted in China in classic Oushak designs, $799.

• Golden Horizon is handknotted in China in wool and silk , using Persian designs, $999.

• Kathmandu is a group of hand-knotted transitional designs using Savonnerie and wild life motifs. $1,099 and up.

• Peshawar collection is made in Pakistan by Afghan refugees, using traditional tribal knotting techniques. Antique replicas of Zeigler Mahal and Sultanabad designs, $1,299 and up.

828 recently entered the handmade rug field, specializing the mid-market range under $1,000.

• Two coordinating patterns in the Tibetan collection bring the look of hand embellishment to this design category. TIB 07 has an ivory field and TIB 08 has a black field of hand-knotted New Zealand wool. Both are accented with shimmering sage-color fern leaves of mercerized cotton with the look and feel of silk, $899 in 5' by 8'.

• Known primarily as an importer of machine-made products, Fun Rugs has now added a hand-knotted construction depicting a map of the world, $90 in 39-inch round.

• Also broadening its design assortment with rugs that have greater adult appeal. A nautical theme and world map patterns are printed on a nylon base, then hand carved for textural interest, $189 for 5' by 8'.

GLOBAL HOME 1501

Global Home covers both the tropics and rustic fronts in two groups of casual accent rugs with the natural texture and look of jute. Moose, bears and fish are prominent players in The Lodge collection. Palm trees, elephant and animal skins make up the Safari collection. The printed jutes bring these design categories to the value-oriented consumer, $300. Greater pattern and color clarity is achieved in the stenciled loop designs, step-up priced at $400. Both collections feature similar patterns.

HAROUNIAN RUGS INTERNATIONAL 6A1

• Soho: The look of an antique hand-knotted reproduction in a plush hand-tufted construction. Features Harounian's proprietary washed finish. $800 in 5' by 8'.

• Royal: Traditional Lavar Kerman and Kashan design concepts has the silky look and hand of fine Persian antiques. It is handknotted in India, $3,250.

• Majestic: Antique reproduction in new palette featuring rust, burgundy, taupe and sky blue, $2,375.

• Angora: Handknotted in Pakistan using fine Angora wool, this collection is inspired by the finely knotted silk rugs of Egypt, $2,375.

• Royal is a group of antique Persian and tribal designs. Hand-knotted in Pakistan in 10/10 construction, antique washed with a high luster. Offered in programmed and one-of-a-kind designs. • Shaggy Shag Leather is a group of natural leather thick shag rugs. Handwoven in India in six color ways. $299 in 5' by 8'.

• Wonders of the World collection is handtufted in India of 100% virgin wool. Luster finish creates a hand-washed, antique look, $299 in 5' by 8'.

• Marrakesh is a line of heat-set polypropylene rugs in more than 30 contemporary and transitional designs. Made in Brazil, $99 in 5' by 8'.

HOMEFIRES/CRESC 2nd floor temps

Homefires introduces Stars, a red, white and blue hand-hooked accent rug that combines patriotic themes with an Early American look. It is part of a new collection of shaped rugs from the importer. Other designs include a group of new floral and garden themes including multi-colored pansies, tulip basket and a romantic hat with lily of the valley. Made in China, $60 to $65, approximate 2' by 3'.

JAIPUR 3C15

• Lexington is added to the Presidential collection in tones of port wine and ebony. Handknotted in India in a classically ornate 16th Century pattern, $2,495.

• Savannah, from the Royale collection has a dramatic ivory and ebony palette, $2,200.

• Windsor, a new design in the Presidential collection is available in ebony/linen and royal/linen colorations, $2,495.

KARASTAN 3A1

Karastan is moving aggressively into the mid-price range with two new collections of Wilton-woven rugs.

• Rue de Provence is based on the textiles, ceramic tilework and architectural elements of the French countryside. Woven in Belgium of New Zealand wool, the palette features French red, sunflower gold, greens, and Mediterranean blue, $699.

• Expressions is Wilton woven in the United States of soft, space-dyed New Zealand wool. Patterns are influenced by both the Arts & Crafts movement and Oushak tribal designs. Luster washed for an antique patina, cross weaving brings greater depth of color and shading, $599.

KAS 4F2

• Metropolitan is a 100% wool Chinese hand-tufted collection in six contemporary and transitional designs, $299.

• Madison is a group of wool flat weaves in a natural palette of beiges, grays and ivory. In 12 designs, machine-made in Belgium, $199.

• The Mohave series is handwoven in India of 100% natural hemp fiber, $149 in 5' by 8'.

• Additions are also made to the Dakota collection of hand-woven jute rugs with a contemporary-southwestern look, $199.

LAMONTAGE 6C9

• New designs from Lamontage are inspired by Italian ironwork and architectural detailing. The rugs are handmade in designer Liora Manne's New York atelier using her proprietary lamontage felting technique, $3,500.

• Another group of lamontage designs is geared to the middle to upper price points and is handcrafted in India. It is marketed through Trans Ocean Import Co.

• Manne is branching out into the lighting and accessories field with two groups of lamontage lamps. Designer-oriented shades featuring retro geometric shapes and colors will be sold through the lamontage design studio. Another group is targeted to broader audiences in department stores, catalogues and home accent channels. It will be shown at the Lamontage-Trans Ocean Imports rug showroom Price points have not yet been set.

LOUIS DE POORTERE 6F11

In a major revamp of the line, Louis de Poortere is offering new coordinated programs and merchandising units that pull together the entire line of rugs, runners and broadloom. All are machine made in Belgium of 100% wool, and several carry the Wools of New Zealand label.

• Runners: The company is nearly doubling its runner assortment. Four new collections include Vincenzo, Antalia Cordal, Richelieu and Classics. LDP also adds 300 SKUs to its existing Jeravan, Mossoul Pergame and Mahajeran collections. It is launching the Louis Organizer, a fully rebatable merchandising unit which displays up to 240 samples of runners, rugs, and broadloom as well as fabricated options.

• Combines by Louis de Poortere is a coordination program that covers 40 matching runner, rug and broadloom qualities from the company's Wools of New Zealand branded lines.

• The Legend broadloom series is Wilton woven in 12 new textures that complement several rug collections.

MASLAND 3F1

• The Grand Manor collection features five traditional Persian designs machine-woven of New Zealand wool, $799.

• Tangier and Maroc are rug versions of two Masland broadloom patterns. Based on the cultural diversity of Morocco, Tangier is an abstract trellis pattern and Maro is a mosaic floral. Both are made of Dupont Antron Legacy nylon and have color-coordinated canvas binding. With wide solid border, $799; with tape border, $599.

• Latisse is a carved basket-weave design added to Masland's inlaid rug program. The rugs are fabricated from Masland broadloom carpeting, made of DuPont nylon, $1,599.

• Marquis is made of 100% nylon and features a grid of diamond shapes in subtle tone-on-tone colorations, $499.

• St. Croix is a nubby textured design woven of wool and jute and accented with fabric border, in four natural colors, $499.

• Additions to the Retropolitan collection feature geometric shapes and optical illusions inspired by the Op Art movement of the 1960s. Machine made of DuPont Antron nylon, $499.

MASTERCRAFT 6E16

Inspired by the classic Persian designs found in English country houses, Mastercraft Imports' new Severn Manor collection is Axminster woven in the United Kingdom of 100% New Zealand wool. Each of the six designs has more than 36 colors in a palette of deep jewel tones, $1,299.

MER 6D3

• Two new hand-crafted product lines are specifically designed and colored to coordinate with today's trends in bed and bath textiles. Both programs are floral designs in pastel colors. The Flores collection is a cotton petit point and Petals is handtufted of wool, $399 in 5'6" by 8'6".

• Nicholas is a collection of 13 transitional and contemporary rugs designed through a collaboration of MER and an Italian textile design company. Handknotted of wool, $1,399 in 5'6" by 8'6".

• Milas is a group of traditional designs handknotted in China. High quality wool and a light wash result in a subtle blend of color and texture, $1499 in 5'6" by 8'6".

MILLIKEN 6E3

Milliken's Innovations collection is a part of the company's broad-based merchandising support program. The 50 designs are available in a display system featuring a large rug along with a group of mini rugs in all the available colors. This allows retailers to show several looks on one arm of a display rack. The nylon rugs are printed using the Millitron patterning technique ($299, 6' by 9').

MOHAWK HOME 6A2

Mohawk Home is expanding and refining its existing area rug collections.

• Printed area rugs: The Chris Madden collection features designs with a serene, casual look. Sizes range from a accent pieces to 5' by 8' area rugs. The Cheri Blum collection is expanded to 20 patterns. The 5' by 8' size will be added to all patterns to complement existing scatter rug sizes. The print collections retail at $150 in 5' by 8'. Mohawk Home will also add 15 new novelty print designs, $29 to $49 in accent sizes.

• Tufted area rugs: The mass market line gets a complete overhaul. Texture becomes more important as Mohawk adds retro shag constructions and frieze yarns to achieve more surface appeal, $79 to $99 in 5' by 8'.

• Woven area rugs: Mohawk will concentrate primarily on expanding the Essentials line at the opening price point of $100 in 5' by 8'. The Velvet Impressions collection is a step up construction, $149 to $199 in 5' by 8'. There will be 10 to 15 new patterns in each group, incorporating a variety of themes, including animal prints and antique looks.

MOMENI 5B4

Since trade resumed between the United States and Iran last year, many rug companies are bringing in Iranian handmade products. Momeni is unique for importing both handmade and machine-made Iranian rugs.

• Tribals: One-of-a-kind, natural-dyed handmade Hammadan geometrics and gabbehs in traditional rusts, reds and earthtones, $1,500 to $2,500.

• Xavier is a group of Iranian machine-made rugs that has been fine-tuned with six new designs in updated colorways, $399.

• Bali is a collection of printed jute rugs in earth tones, $249.

• Four new hand-tufted collections from China and India are also added in Persian, Tibetan and contemporary styles, $699 to $799.

MOREN 3C3

The Atlanta market represents Moren's first venture into the handmade business. The company recently purchased the assets of Corinthian Rugs, the specialist in hand-tufted rugs.

• The new Corinthian collection by Moren includes the Element collection, which includes six designs based on master artists of the 20th century. The thick hand-tufted rugs are carved to achieve dramatic textural effects, $799.

• Moren's Isparta collection is machine made of New Zealand wool in Paisley, Tabriz and Isfahan designs, $ 599.

NOURISON 3D2

• Nourison unveils its extensive Calvin Klein collections, a major marketing program featuring spare and elegant architectural designs with dense textures and subtly shaded colors. Several designs are highlighted with glimmers of silk. The Calvin Klein rugs bring an understated message to the normally ornate world of rugs. All major constructions are represented, including hand-knotted, hand-tufted, hand-woven and power-loomed. The rugs are stocked for immediate delivery. Prices hit several points on the upper part of the spectrum, $675 to $3,400.

• Nourison is also making extensive additions to the Nourison 2000 collection featuring such classic Oriental rug designs as a documentary Moghul, all-over Kashan, an intricate Star Tabriz and a deep ruby red sarouk. Handtufted of wool with accents of silk. Octagon shapes are now being added to the assortment of traditional rectangles, rounds, ovals and runners in the group, $1,500.

OBEETEE 5F8

• Classics, Obeetee's luxury division, adds four groups of high knot-count handmade rugs. The Laver Kerman collection, of European scoured hand-spun wool, juxtaposes the traditional and the novel, $3,499. The Raja collection, of 100% New Zealand wool, uses pastels in complex designs, $2,899.

• Two hand-knotted groups present cosmopolitan designs that make a playful statement about traditional designs. The Monad collection uses a combination of woolen blends, $1,399. The Europa collection is made of 100% New Zealand wool, $1799.

• Obeetee is introducing several new collections in the medium priced Home line.

• The Lumbini collection is handtufted to simulate the look of Tibetan hand-knotted rugs, $349.

• The Morgan Wallace collection is handtufted of wool and silk featuring contemporary designs and bold color palettes, $449 in 5' by 8'.

• The Liberty collection uses 100% New Zealand wool to present intricate designs with a fresh and innovative approach, $749.

• The Samira collection is handtufted in with understated design themes, $699.

• Designs are added to the Kilim line, introduced last Summer, $280 in 5' by 8'.

ORIAN 6C2

Suprema II collection features a mix of straight olefin yarn and heatset olefin yarn. Using the same colors with the two yarn systems results in variations in shade and texture Suprema rugs have the look of wool and the feel of carved rug. $120.99 for 6' by 9'.

ORIENTAL WEAVERS USA 3C12

Oriental Weavers of America launches two collections by Raymond Waites featuring the designer's ornate signature look.

• The Vintage collection features jungle prints, florals and contemporary patterns in fashion-forward combinations. Woven of 100% heatset olefin in a variety of updated colorways, $299.

• The Vintage Court collection is machine woven of nylon and Oriental Weavers' patented Nylene yarn system. In both contemporary and transitional designs, with both fringed and serged borders, $399.

• Additions to existing lines will also be introduced during the market.

THE RUG MARKET 5A8, 1100

The Rug Market introduces several floral hooked designs and adds to its large collection of juvenile rugs.

• Sweet November combines lush primroses and apple blossoms in a dramatic white and red design. Petit point hooked construction of 100% wool, $299.

• Field O'Flors has a soft cream background with delicate red poppies scattered on the border. Center field is bordered by scroll and leaf motif. Handtufted of 100% wool, $499.

• Rosebud is a juvenile product that bridges tastes of both children and adult. The soft floral motif features lavender rose buds and blossoms on a white field. Dye-cut roses extend beyond the border. Handhooked of 100% cotton, $100 in 3' by 5'.

• Other juvenile patterns include FantaSea, a menagerie of whimsical sea life with a polka dot and gingham border and Excalibur, a re-creation of a medieval castle. Both are petit point hooked of 100% cotton, $100 in 3' by 5'.

SAFAVIEH 4C1

• Safavieh introduces designs by Walter Nicholas. Clean and simple designs represent new concepts in handmade rugs. Walter Nicholas will be on hand during the Atlanta Area Rug Market to meet with customers. Handknotted in India, $1,299.

• Safavieh also introduces new hand-knotted rugs made in the Tibetan, $950. In addition, 10 new hooked and tufted designs are being shown with an emphasis on animals, flowers and vegetable, $340-$399.

SHAW 6B3

• The Kathy Ireland juvenile collection is called Young Attitude, featuring the sprightly pinks, purples and magentas of the tweener palette. In both woven and printed nylon constructions, $99 to $199 in 5' by 8'.

• The richly detailing in the Susan Welsh Portfolio brings a fresh look to the rug design industry. The collection is inspired by the French, Persian and Italian decorative arts, with a painterly eye for color and perspective. Machine woven of nylon, $430 in 5' by 8'.

• Shaw continues its partnership with Nourison design in a new collection of space dyed nylon rugs in traditional designs sparked by a richly saturated color palette.

SPHINX BY ORIENTAL WEAVERS 3A2

• The Sphinx division of Oriental Weavers is launching its Oasis hand-made rug line at the Atlanta Area Rug Market. Eight hand-tufted wool collections range from casual contemporary looks in the Jazz and Fiesta lines to ornate designs inspired by classic Oriental rugs in the Masterpiece collection. The company's first hand-tufted collections were given a sneak preview in High Point. ($599 in 5'6" by 8'6"). A group of hand-knotted rugs will be formally introduced in Atlanta. With the launch of the Oasis line, Oriental Weavers has opened offices in India and China.

• Sphinx's new Town & Country collection features the brilliant colors, decorative designs and large-scale patterns of Kazak/Caucasian handmade rugs at machine-made prices. The machine-made rugs are made of New Zealand wool using a proprietary manufacturing process, $499 for 5'3" by 7'9".

TRANS-OCEAN 6C9

Trans Ocean Imports introduces several collections bringing high fashion aesthetics to the middle price range.

• Siena is a group of floral and transitional patterns hand hooked in China. Wool, with non-skid latex back, $299 in 5' by 8'.

• The Inca collection's Path design is a linear geometric in deep jewel tones. Made in India, hand-tufted wool construction, $399, 5' by 8'.

• Trees move in shadowy forms in the haunting Cape Cod collection, handtufted in China of 100% wool, $299 in 5' by 8'.

• Matera collection is handwoven in bold stripes and asymmetric boxes creating a retro look. Made in India of wool pile, $199 in 5' by 8'.

• Allura is a group of easy contemporary styles with a silky sheen. Machine made in Belgium of 70% polypropylene and 30% viscose, $299 in 5' by 8'.

• Recalling the tradition of hand-loomed rag rugs, Bayview is handwoven in Austria in sunny stripe patterns, $199 in 5' by 8'.

United Weavers introduces two extensive collections that represent high fashion looks with value-oriented price points,.

• Opulence features a plush 14-millimeter pile height in a palette of clear botanical tones. The machine-woven polypropylene rugs are cross woven, achieving up to 57 shades in each of 30 designs, $299 in 6' by 9'.

• The Versant collection is a promotional line that features high-end styling. The five-color extra-heavy plush olefin pile has hand-carved detailing, $99 in 6' by 9'.

• United Weavers will also add six new items to its Rug & Throw Ensemble sets. The new duet products are based on designs in the Nadeen, Genesis and Versant collection.
