Mixed media hot in occasional tables
By Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, April 14, 2002
HIGH POINT — Mixed media continues to be a hot look in occasional tables, as products feature a variety of woods, metals and organic materials.
Standard woods remain popular such as pine, cherry, oak, maple, mahogany and birch. Other woods include sycamore as seen in the new Synergy collection from Keller, alder at Century, cedar at A.A. Laun, beechwood at Hurtado, mappa burl on new product from CTH-Sherrill, and prima vera, ash and olive ash burls and walnut inlay as seen at Bernhardt and Universal.
Metals include steel, brass, iron and aluminum with nickel a common choice for hardware. Top options include glass and stone tops like marble and granite.
Organic looks come from bamboo (crushed and split), banana bark, coconut shell, rafia, rattan, wicker, leather and faux leather.
