ORLANDO, Fla. — How can great customer service help your business keep customers happy and loyal?
How can humor improve your company's culture and promote productivity?
What does it take to be a successful retailer in 2002?
These are among the questions to be answered at an annual symposium sponsored by the David F. Miller Center for Retailing Education and Research at the University of Florida.
The program, to be held June 10-11 at the Rosen Center Hotel here, will feature a variety of speakers and panels of leaders from across the retail spectrum discussing innovative retailing strategies and practices.
Speakers include Ira Kalish, chief retail economist and senior vice president for Retail Forward, who will discuss the changing business environment and its impact on retail.
Robert Rodgers, president of Sears' The Great Indoors division, will talk about that chain's business and how the customer plays into everything it does.
Larry Magee, president, chairman and chief executive officer of BFS Retail & Commercial Operations, will discuss leadership in turbulent times.
And Ken Banks and Terri Kabachnick, co-founders of Totalbrand Integration, will talk about how marketers can bring their brands to life at the store level.
Also, Pete Nordstrom, president of the full-line store group for Nordstrom, and Jack Williams, vice chairman and CEO of Stein Mart, will discuss growth and business strategies at their department store chains.
Three panels will examine customer service, successful marketing to teens and tweens, and the makeup of a successful retailer in 2002.
The latter panel will feature Andy Moser, senior managing director and chief operating officer of Wells Fargo Retail Finance; Stewart Cohen, principal of The Ozer Group; Mike Egan, executive vice president and COO of Hilco Capital; Bob Kenzer, president of Kenzer Corp.; and Raymond Springer, executive vice president and chief financial officer of The Right Start.
The winners of Chain Store Age's Annual Retail Store of the Year Design competition will be announced at the symposium.
The David F. Miller Center is a leading research and education resource for the retail industry, offering executive education programs, industry surveys and university student training for entry-level management positions.
