Restonic offers first airbeds
By David Perry -- Furniture Today, February 8, 2004
SAN FRANCISCO — Top 10 bedding producer Restonic is entering the airbed category with a two-model line.
The company unveiled its "better" Distinct Comfort model and "best" Distinct Rest number at the San Francisco market, with both models featuring individual air cushions on top of a layer of innerspring coils.
"You have the best of both worlds," said Donna Favia, Restonic's vice president of marketing services. "You have the support of innersprings and the comfort of air. We are offering distinct comfort, no matter what side you are sleeping on. It's comfort for him and for her."
Both beds offer adjustable firmness, achieved with a digital pump.
With the introduction, Restonic becomes one of the few bedding majors with an airbed program. Favia noted that the success of airbed producer and retailer Select Comfort has created considerable interest in airbeds.
"Specialty sleep is becoming a more and more important category," she said. "Consumers are asking for something different. These products help Restonic retailers differentiate themselves from ordinary retailers."
She said the retail reception to the new products in San Francisco "was very good." The beds will be rolled out by Restonic factories nationwide starting in April.
Distinct Comfort, which retails between $1,699 and $1,799 in queen, has two air chambers, one on each side, with each chamber divided into sections supporting the head and middle. The foot section of the bed features convoluted foam.
Distinct Rest, retailing from $1,899 to $1,999, has six separate air chambers, three on each sleeper's side. The middle chambers works independently, maintaining Restonic's flagship Marvelous Middle construction, which puts extra support in the center third of the mattress.
The beds are covered with a stretch velvet and a four-way stretch knit.
Support materials include price cards, two-sided banners, two-sided tear sheets, feature/benefit bedding labels, and a retail video.
