Hiddenbed meets office, sleeping space needs
David Perry -- Furniture Today, February 8, 2004
SAN FRANCISCO — It's a home office. A moment later it's a comfortable place to sleep. That's the dual function offered by the new HiddenBed, introduced here by Wallbeds.
Space-squeezed consumers will like the way the compact unit enables them to stretch their working and living space, said John McNeill, president of Resource Associates, the Petaluma, Calif.-based marketing services firm which represents the line.
He said the full-sized work center can be used as a sewing center, a home office or a place to pursue hobbies and crafts. With "one easy motion," consumers can pull the sleeping surface into position as the work surface tucks underneath the unit. Consumers can leave the work surface just as it is; there is no need to clean the work surface before it slides out of view, McNeill said.
The contemporary oak unit can be ordered in configurations accommodating a twin or a full-sized mattress. A HiddenBed configured for a twin mattress will retail between $1,500 and $1,600.
HiddenBed is offered in light, sunset, chocolate or whitewash finishes.
McNeill was pleased with the retail reaction to the unit at market. "It got a 'wow' response," he said.
