Henredon taps McKee as president, COO

By Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, February 8, 2004

Henredon has promoted Steve McKee to president and chief operating officer, with Michael Dugan remaining CEO and taking the new title of chairman.

McKee, 51, a retailing veteran, joined the high-end manufacturer and importer in February 2002 as executive vice president of sales and marketing.

In a related move, the company promoted Tom O'Connell to executive vice president of operations from vice president and chief financial officer.

"These appointments are part of an orderly succession process at Henredon," said Dugan, 63. "While I will continue to oversee the strategic direction of the company and will continue to be closely involved with our other companies such as Hickory Chair, Steve and Tom will take a much broader role in the day-to-day operations of the company."

Before joining Henredon, McKee was president of retailer Home Co. from 1998 to 2002, and previously was an executive with Minneapolis-based Gabberts for 11 years, leaving as president. Earlier, he held executive posts at Shillito's and Joske's, and began his career at Macy's Department Stores.

Dugan said McKee's retail background and sales and marketing strengths "will be invaluable as Henredon continues the development of its own retail presence." Four dedicated Henredon stores are scheduled to open this year, giving the brand a total of six by year's end.

The stores are part of a plan by Henredon parent Furniture Brands International to increase its focus on dedicated stores for several of its companies.

"I appreciate Mike's confidence in offering me this great challenge," said McKee. "Henredon has the right product line, the right strategic direction, and the best brand name in our sector of the furniture industry."

As executive vice president of operations, O'Connell will be responsible for manufacturing and importing functions in addition to finance and administration. The company will recruit a new chief financial officer, Dugan said.
