SOMERSET, N.J. — Kevin McGuinnes, president of Ekornes USA, has resigned. He had headed the Norwegian company's U.S. operations since 1985.
Ekornes, which makes upper-end reclining chairs and sofas for the U.S. market, said a successor would be named in several weeks. Until then, the U.S. unit will be supervised by Svein Lunde, who also oversees Ekornes operations in the United Kingdom, southern Europe and Asia.
Lunde said McGuinnes' resignation was voluntary, and said his decision took Ekornes officials by surprise.
"We were all sort of shell-shocked when it happened," he said. "But he has built a good team here, and we don't expect any disruptions."
Lunde said he doesn't anticipate any other management changes.
The company, which has U.S. sales of more than $50 million annually, recently moved into a new U.S. headquarters and distribution center in Somerset that is double the size of its former facility.
