Armen Art debuts Chinese-made leather industry
By Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, February 8, 2004
SAN FRANCISCO — Importer Armen Art introduced a line of Chinese-made leather upholstery here.
The promotional Prince Collection joins Armen Art's line of better Italian leather seating, entertainment centers and marble and stone case pieces.
"We are still an Italian importer selling high-quality Italian products," said Kevin Kevonian, chief financial officer for Armen Art, based in North Hollywood, Calif. "But we can't ignore the current wave of Chinese imports."
The Chinese line includes 18 traditional and contemporary stationary frames, as well as the company's first reclining and motion pieces, using Leggett & Platt components. The pieces show a European design influence and include a few microdenier fabric covers.
Armen Art's Italian upholstery retails from $1,499 to $3,999 for 100% top-grain, aniline-dyed covered sofas. The Prince Collection, in leather match, hits the $799 to $1,999 retail price points.
The Chinese leather is available either container-direct or via warehouse programs. Mixed loads are acceptable.
