Furnishings Caucus seeks updates
By Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, February 15, 2004
WASHINGTON — The Congressional Furnishings Caucus will ask representatives from the U.S. departments of Commerce and Labor to attend the group's next meeting on March 2.
The lawmakers want to hear from Labor about the impact of the Trade Adjustment Act, which provides supplemental unemployment benefits and job training for workers displaced by import competition. From Commerce, it wants an update on the status of the department's investigation into whether Chinese manufacturers are dumping wood bedroom furniture in the U.S. market.
North Carolina representatives Howard Coble, R-6th District, and Mel Watt, D-12th District, formed the caucus in March 2003 to address topics affecting the furniture industry. The bipartisan group has about two dozen members from states with furniture-related industries.
