Bloomingdale's opening gallery
By Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, February 15, 2004
NEW YORK — Bloomingdale's will open its first freestanding furniture, mattress and rug gallery in March in Roosevelt Field on Long Island.
Furniture will have slightly less than 40,000 square feet, rugs about 10,000 square feet and mattresses 5,000 square feet. The balance of the 60,000-square-foot store will be used for offices.
The store will occupy half of a former Stern's store, another Federated division.
"We've been trying to find the right real estate for a freestanding furniture store for a long time," said Joe Laneve, Bloomingdale's senior vice president of home. Eighteen of Bloomingdale's 28 full-line stores carry furniture, and the company has announced that a new West Coast flagship store being built in San Francisco also will have furniture, mattresses and rugs.
