Jason Young's kids tell him, ‘Daddy, Get a Job'
Former Simmons employee makes hit video

ATLANTA — Like many who have lost their jobs recently, Jason Young is looking for work. But his job search has taken a viral twist: A video of his kids sharing their job-seeking "secrets" with him has become an Internet sensation.

The video, "Daddy, Get a Job," stars Young's children, Jackson, 5, and Julia, 2. They provide grown-up advice, urging him to "dress for the job you want" and "leverage your network." The video, originally posted to YouTube, is also included as an iReport by CNN where it has been viewed almost 12,000 times in the last five days. Young was also interviewed by CNN.
Young, a former Simmons employee who left the company last fall in a round of corporate belt-tightening, produced the video. A handwritten sign held by Jackson says that Young is looking for a job in communications, public relations or marketing.
The six-minute video, replete with background music from "Star Wars" and "2001: A Space Odyssey," features his kids offering several job-seeking tips, among them: "You've got to stand out in the crowd" and "Don't seem desperate."
So far there have been no job offers, Young said, but the video is striking a chord with many.
"The reaction that I have received so far has been fantastic," he said. "People who have seen the video have told me that it has inspired them, especially those who are in the same situation as me. A teacher at my children's school told me her husband had lost his job and the video helped inspire him. With all of the bad news going around right now, maybe this can help inspire others to be creative and innovative in their own job searches."
