Kindel Furniture appoints Jim Fisher chief executive officer

Jon Smith leaving the company after two years at helm

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Kindel President and CEO Jon Smith will leave the company this month after more than two years at the helm of the domestic manufacturer of reproduction-quality upholstery and case goods.

Jim Fisher, a member of the Fisher family that has owned Kindel since 1964, will join the company as CEO.

No replacement for president has been named, and the rest of the company's executive team remains in place.

Smith joined Kindel in early 2007 on an interim basis after the company released its former management team. At that time, he was tasked with overseeing a program to reinvigorate the Kindel brand worldwide.

In a recent letter to dealers, Smith said that in the last two years the company has launched a Web site, enhanced its marketing and customer service initiatives, expanded its international sales and interior design base and re-established its wholesale showroom business with Robert Allen/Beacon Hill.

"Kindel is today well positioned to be a survivor in a challenging economic environment and enter into the coming economic recovery with as strong a strategic position as it has ever had," Smith said in the letter.
