Miresco shuts down wholesale rug division

By Lissa Wyman -- Furniture Today, March 16, 2009

Miresco Decorative Rugs will suspend operations of its wholesale division in order to focus on the expansion of its promotional sales division, according to Amir Mireskandari, owner and CEO.

The wholesale division has provided rugs to channels such as furniture stores, while the promotional division has supplied channels such as liquidation and tent sales.

Miresco will close its showrooms in Atlanta and High Point, said Donnette Miller, vice president of marketing and product development.

“You have to evaluate your business and take swift action to be viable in the marketplace today. Amir has always had a visionary approach to the evolution of the company's business model,” she said.

Greg Jordt, vice president of the wholesale division, has transferred to the promotional sales division in Houston to become vice president of purchasing and logistics. Wholesale support employees will be integrated into the promotional sales division.

Miller will leave the company after the transition, pursuing other opportunities in the home furnishings industry and remaining in High Point.

Mireskandari said that in 2008, Miresco's promotional sales division became the largest independent retailer of area rugs in the country.

“While we will miss the wholesale aspect of the business, this re-focus of our business model will allow us to continue with our tremendous retail growth,” he said.
