Tempur-Pedic Teddy Bear will help fight pancreatic cancer
Part of special promotion beginning in October

LEXINGTON, Ky. — A Tempur-Pedic Teddy Bear will help retailers raise money for the fight against pancreatic cancer. And company officials are "bearly" able to contain their enthusiasm for the special promotion they are rolling out for the fourth quarter this year.

The "My Tempur-Pedic Teddy Bear," fashioned from the company's trademark Tempur material and carrying logos for Tempur-Pedic and the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, will retail for $59 and will give the company's dealers a chance to support a worthy cause, officials said.
The idea for the Teddy Bears originated in December at the latest edition of the Seena Magowitz Celebrity Golf Classic, one of the largest pancreatic cancer fund-raising events in the nation. That event honors the memory of Seena Magowitz, the mother of bedding retailer Roger Magowitz, who started the event in 2003 along with fellow bedding retailer Ray Bojanowski. Seena Magowitz died of pancreatic cancer in 2001.
Magowitz was discussing the cause with Tempur-Pedic officials at the event and they decided to step forward with a major promotional event, Magowitz said. Tempur-Pedic has been a strong supporter of the Seena Magowitz Golf Classic.
"In these terrible economic times," Magowitz said, "Tempur-Pedic has figured out a clever way to help in the fight against pancreatic cancer. This is a refreshing idea, and this promotion can provide a major boost to our fund-raising efforts."
Todd Miller, vice president of retail sales, who led Tempur-Pedic's delegation at the Seena Magowitz Golf Classic, announced the promotion in a recent letter to the company's dealers. He said that Tempur-Pedic will donate all proceeds from the sale of the bears to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network.
Miller said that network "is the leader in the fight to defeat pancreatic cancer. They are the only national organization creating hope in a comprehensive way through research, patient support, community outreach and advocacy for a cure."
"My Tempur-Pedic Teddy Bear" is adorned in a purple ribbon that reflects the pancreatic cancer group's color. He comes with a cause bracelet for the purchaser and a card with information on why he is supporting the cause.
The Teddy Bear will be the centerpiece of Tempur-Pedic's fourth-quarter promotional event. The company will sell bears from Oct. 15 through Dec. 27 at retail, online and through its direct sales group. In addition, the bears may be used as a gift with the purchase of a Tempur-Pedic mattress at retail.
The promotion ties in with National Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month in November.
Because there is a long lead time to manufacturer the special edition bear, Tempur-Pedic is asking its dealers to place their orders by Friday, April 10. The bears will be shipped to dealers beginning in early October.
