Body Perfect bed gets 'SMART'

MEBANE, N.C. — Top 10 bedding producer Kingsdown is introducing new pricey, high-tech beds in its new Sleep to Live retail program. One is even “SMART,” featuring “Scientific Measurement and Response Technology.”
Kingsdown successfully presented the new beds to retailers who got a multi-media introduction to the Sleep to Live program in a showing at the Venetian during the Las Vegas Market. Company officials said retail response to the new program, which includes a new line of sleep sets, was overwhelmingly positive.
The basic Sleep to Live sleep set line retails from $1,499 to $5,000. But the top-end beds push prices up to about $10,000.
The new Body Perfect bed incorporates state-of-the-art features, including a bedroom environment monitor, response sensors and automatic adjustment features, and is capable of generating daily sleep reports. All are powered by Kingsdown's SMART technology.
Utilizing an Environmental Data Device, the bedroom monitors check light, sound and temperature, all factors that can affect sleep. Consumers can use that information to improve their sleep environment for optimal sleep conditions.
The bed also includes 60 “measure and respond” sensors that respond to changes in movement and subtly adjust the sleep set to conform to the body throughout the night. The benefit is that consumers can experience the best in support and pressure relief even as their body shifts positions in bed, the company said.
And SMART technology linked to the Environmental Data Device sends data to a handheld unit to provide daily reports on how long the consumer slept, how well she slept, and how her sleeping has changed over time. Those daily reports can help her better understand her sleep habits and pinpoint areas that need attention, Kingsdown officials said.
Also new is the Sleep to Live Oasis, which Kingsdown bills as “the ultimate retreat” and the place where “your sleep system meets your home entertainment system.” Among its many features: A Sony Bravia theater system, a five-disc DVD/CD changer, a five-speaker surround-sound system, a subwoofer, an iPod docking station, a high-speed Internet line, recessed lighting, a headboard storage area, hidden storage compartments, a laptop desk, and a retractable TV lift with remote control that can accommodate up to a 42-inch flat-panel TV.
The Oasis can be used with any Sleep to Live mattress, including the company's BodyMotion adjustable base.
