Troutman buys Kennedy Rocker
Staff -- Furniture Today, March 30, 2009
Troutman, N.C. — Troutman Chair has acquired the rights to the Kennedy Rocker from fellow North Carolina manufacturer P&P Chair Co., which has shut down its operations.
Also called the Presidential Rocker, the sturdy rocking chair was made famous by President Kennedy. He found it comfortable for his back, which was left ailing after a war injury.
Champ Land, president of Troutman Chair, said the company will keep the Kennedy name and plans to build on both the historic and health angles connected with the chair. He said Troutman will keep and enhance the P&P Web site at www.authentickennedyrocker.com, including adding a retailer directory.
Land, who did not disclose the financial terms of the transaction, said that in addition to the name Troutman acquired inventory and some equipment from P&P.
The chairs are available with backs and seats of either cane or wood slats.
He added that the company will use hangtags to promote the presidential tie and the health benefit of the chair. Troutman already maintains a Web site that promotes such benefits at www.rockingchairtherapy.org, in addition to its company site at www.troutmanchairs.com.
