WASHINGTON — WASHINGTON— U.S. Rep. Howard Coble, R-N.C., has introduced a bill to temporarily suspend import duties on nitrocellulose, a key ingredient in the production of lacquers used in the finishing of wood furniture.
Coble told American City Business Journals that he introduced the legislation because the only known domestic producer of nitrocellulose has ceased production, and that since no U.S. product is available, the 5.2% duty penalizes domestic manufacturers. He wants the duty suspended for three years.
