2004 Kids Today conference set for June

By Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, April 23, 2004

It's all about the younger set at the 2004 Kids Today conference, scheduled for June 2-4 at the Lago Mar Resort & Club in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

"The fourth annual Kids Today conference takes on the theme 'The Kid Connection: Plug in to the Power,' and that's exactly what we'll do in these three days," said Jane Kitchen, editor of Kids Today, a supplement to Furniture/Today.

"We'll hear from dynamic retailers like keynote speaker Kristina Ventura of Bombay Kids about how they've tapped into this fast-growing market, as well as industry experts who will help us better understand the ins and outs of niche marketing to tweens and Latinos," Kitchen said.

"We'll also take a look at color and pattern trends, and how accessories and textiles can help boost sales at retail. And of course, the Kids Today conference is always a great place for networking — a smart way to plug in to what's going on with others in the industry."

The conference will kick off Wednesday, June 2, with a fashion show highlighting up-and-coming color and pattern trends for juvenile home furnishings.

Always a popular feature on the agenda are two consumer panels — one with kids, and one with their moms — where attendees will have a chance to ask their end users what they're really looking for.

The Kids Today Merchandising Leadership Award will be presented at the conference, honoring an industry veteran who has shown market leadership and innovation and who has contributed significantly to the juvenile industry. Finalists will be highlighted at the conference in a special ceremony.

The conference rate is $695 per person and includes attendance, meals, entertainment and conference materials. Kids Today will donate $50 from each registration to the non-profit organization K.I.D.S., Kids In Distressed Situations.

The registration fee doesn't include hotel accommodations, but a special rate of $125 a night is available. In addition, the hotel has agreed to extend the rate to two days prior to the conference and two days following for anyone taking advantage of the location or planning a family trip.
