IFDA holding fund-raising walks
By Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, April 6, 2009
NEW YORK — More than a dozen chapters of the International Furnishings & Design Assn. are holding walks this spring to raise money for the IFDA Educational Foundation.
The collected funds will support the numerous scholarships and grants the foundation awards. IFDA expects to see a boost in applicants for the awards this year because of the weak economy.
Walk for Design Education events will take place throughout the spring and will range from tours of design centers to hikes on trails and walks through gardens.
National walk partners are 3M on the Champion level; Benjamin Moore and Hunter Douglas on the Booster level; and Market Square/MMPI, EJ Victor and Technology Ventures on the Banner level.
Among the scholarships and grants to be awarded this year is the Green/Sustainable Scholarship. For more information, visit www.ifdaef.org.
This past weekend, the Carolinas Chapter held its walk in High Point, preceded by a garden party at the High Point home of designer Raymond Waites.
“I am pleased to be involved with the IFDA/EF Walk for Design Education and its goal of helping to increase scholarships for talented students as well as grants in such areas as historic preservation and universal design,” Waites said.
Bonnie Peterson, Educational Foundation chairwoman, thanked Waites for offering his home. Local sponsors of the walk were 200 Steele, Diana Parrish Designs, Wayne Inds. and Hamilton Properties.
