City marks Badcock day
By Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, February 1, 2004
MULBERRY, Fla. — The city of Mulberry officially declared Jan. 13 as Badcock Day in honor of the 100th anniversary of Top 100 furniture chain W.S. Badcock.
Badcock, which is based here and started in 1904 as a general mercantile store, is the oldest home furnishings retailer in Florida and has more than 320 stores throughout the Southeast.
The Badcock Day event, which kicks off a yearlong celebration, featured an exhibit of memorabilia including a mock storefront of the first Badcock store and furniture from various eras, including 1930s furniture that belonged to Mr. and Mrs. Wogan S. Badcock Sr. and a table that Stanley Furniture custom made for Mr. and Mrs. Wogan S. Badcock Jr. in the 1970s.
The Mulberry Post Office will, upon request, cancel personal mail with a Badcock commemorative cancellation through Feb. 13. Lakeland's post office will have a Badcock 100th Anniversary cancellation for mail generated from any ZIP code starting with 338.
