IHFRA set to install Myers as new president at gala

By Tanya K. Merritte -- Furniture Today, April 13, 2009

The International Home Furnishings Representatives Assn. will install Ed Myers as president during the 75th annual Presidential Gala and award ceremony here Friday, April 24.

Myers, who will be the group's 71st president, is past president and chairman of the Tri-State Home Furnishings Assn. He is based in Media, Pa., and has been a rep for Broyhill in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware and Maryland since 2000. Before then, he worked in furniture retail.

Other officers to be installed are First Vice President Sandy Dant of HFRG of Southern California; Second Vice President Mark Scharff of MFA of New Jersey; Secretary/Treasurer Mike Root, an IHFRA at-large member; and Chairman of the Board Jim Craven of the Tennessee Furniture Travelers.

Several awards also will be given out during the gala.

Michael More of the Midwest Furniture Club will receive the Rudy Steltemeir Award, given to an IHFRA member who has demonstrated outstanding service to other representatives. More has lead efforts to expand a Chicago-area furniture show, allowing the Midwest club to expand its presence and grow its membership.

Due in part to that membership increase, the Midwest club will be named Chapter of the Year for the second straight year. The group also has raised money for various charities.

Receiving the Charles B. Costar Dean of IHFRA Award, honoring service to the organization, will be Neil Anderson Sr., Virginia/Carolinas HFRA; Randy Bowlden, Georgia HFA; Terry Clemens, Michigan; Gary Diamond, Tri-State Home Furnishings Assn.; Neil Friedman, HFRG of Southern California; Andy Gans, Greater New York Home Furnishings Assn.; Vonica Tamney, Florida Home Furnishings Assn.; and Ted Weisbach, Midwest Furniture Club.

Tickets are $60 per person. The event will take place in the International Home Furnishings Center 11th floor ballroom, with cocktails at 6 p.m. and dinner at 7 p.m. followed by the award ceremony. For more information, call IHFRA at (336) 889-3920 or e-mail ihfra@ifhra.org.
