Century teams up with designer Pride Sasser

HIGH POINT — Century Furniture is partnering with case goods and accent furniture designer and producer Pride Sasser on a new collection at this month's High Point Market.
Grand Tour — Designed by Pride Sasser for Century will include some 200 SKUs of bedroom, dining room, occasional and accent furniture as well as lighting and accessories.
Sasser said that as many as 40 of the pieces are new. The others are existing Pride Sasser designs that will be marketed under the Pride Sasser/Century umbrella.
In a statement, Century called Grand Tour “an extensive collection of furniture, lighting and accessories styled for the sophisticated consumer with eclectic tastes.”
“Pride brings a strong sense of design and broad manufacturing capabilities to the table,” said Century CEO Alex Shuford Sr. in a statement. “That, coupled with Century's infrastructure and logistical strengths, will enable us to offer a unique collection that will have great appeal to both our customer and to the end consumer.”
The pieces have been produced in facilities that Sasser has owned in the Philippines for 12 years. Mixed media materials used in the furniture include parchment and penshell inlays, leather, stone, wrought iron and mirror accents, as well as a variety of veneers and solid woods.
Sasser said the pieces are made with “Old World techniques done in the 21st century.”
“Basically, the focus is totally eclectic things from all walks of furniture styling, from 16th century to Art Deco,” Sasser said, adding that his imported product mix will complement Century's custom domestic approach to furniture production. “It's really extremely eclectic mixed media.”
The pieces will be on display in Century's showroom on the fourth and fifth floors of Market Square at the High Point Market, which opens April 25.
Sasser said the partnership allows his company to tap into Century's marketing expertise and distribution network, particularly to the design trade. But he expects it to get plenty of looks from Top 100 furniture store accounts too, and believes it will appeal largely to consumers in their late 20s to early 50s.
“It seemed like a really great fit for all of us,” Sasser said. “Century is a fantastic firm and they are a professional group in the area of marketing. It's just a wonderful opportunity for both parties to put something together that is totally unique.”
