AVB adds mattress retailing formats
By Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, February 1, 2004
ANAHEIM, Calif. — Buying group Associated Volume Buyers has unveiled new formats for its licensed mattress retail program, aiming to meet the needs of stores in small and midsized markets as well as large ones.
More than 20 independently owned stores in 10 states already use the SleepSource-Your Mattress Expert program AVB introduced in 1999, most of them in freestanding or strip-center locations.
Now, the program is available in three formats:
-
SleepSource Express, targeted at markets with populations under 50,000, with an in-store footprint of 1,300 to 1,500 square feet.
-
SleepSource Gallery, designed for markets over 50,000 with an in-store footprint of 2,200 to 2,500 square feet.
-
SleepSource Elite, designed for a freestanding, strip-center location in markets over 100,000 population.
"We've been very successful with SleepSource," said Mike Allen, AVB general manager/home furnishings. "Our concept of providing a turn-key package — showroom inventory, interior décor and advertising campaign — gives the dealer a retail presence that would be very difficult and expensive to create on their own."
He said the new formats will meet the needs of AVB members "in second- and third-tier markets that want a professionally developed mattress gallery, but didn't meet the earlier demographic or square footage requirements." The program includes a package of financial incentives, he said.
SleepSource will continue to rely on Simmons and Spring Air as primary vendors, with accessories from several resources.
SleepSource is a division of AVB, a 1,400-member not-for-profit buying group that also includes BrandSource, Home Entertainment Source and Home Rental Source. For information, contact Allen at (425) 954-4004 or by e-mail at mike.allen@brandsource.com.
