Exact Commerce opens warehouse, showroom facility
By Thomas Russell -- Furniture Today, April 13, 2009
COLLIERVILLE, Tenn. — Exact Commerce Group, the parent company of upper end case goods importer Belle Meade Signature and OEM supplier Exact Commerce USA, has opened a 100,000-square-foot warehouse, office and showroom facility here.
The $9 million facility replaces a 40,000-square-foot warehouse and office facility here, which is up for sale.
The old facility shipped goods for the OEM business and for Belle Meade, which launched in April 2008. But the company had to lease additional space in the area to handle all the product.
Goods from both divisions and also from Exact's Legacy Billiards game table division are now under one roof, with warehouse and distribution space totaling about 80,000 square feet.
With the additional capacity, the company can store up to 70% of the SKUs in the Belle Meade line, or double the number in the old facility.
“Everything we had for Belle Meade was going into the temporary (leased) warehouse space,” said Jonathan Cochran, CEO of Belle Meade Signature. “We know our customer will be a warehouse customer. It is not a volume business. It is a quality business.”
The new Collierville facility also includes about 10,000 square feet of office space and a 10,000 square foot showroom for the Legacy Billiards and Belle Meade brands.
Exact also has a 24,000-square-foot distribution facility in High Point where it stocks special-order COM goods.
“Some of the items we can bring in as a whitewood, where a customer can select a finish or fabric,” said Gary Browning, Belle Meade marketing manager. “Before, we didn't have the space available to commit to that type of program.”
The High Point facility also will continue to service OEM customers in North Carolina and Virginia.
“It is critical in that it allows some cross-docking and some stocking opportunities for those accounts,” Browning said.
The new Collierville facility can ship goods across the country for Belle Meade and will ship to OEM customers outside North Carolina and Virginia. It has seven dock doors and ceilings higher than 32 feet, which allows for a high-cube racked storage system.
Such design features of the new facility allow the company to offer more tailor-made logistical services to its clients, said Exact Commerce CEO Terry Cochran.
“We have weathered economic challenges in the past, and this year will be one of the most formidable times in our industry's history,” he said. “However, the Exact Commerce Group has strategically positioned itself to endure the current economic climate and maintain and broaden its position of strength.”
He said the company has focused on “the internal efficiencies of our global network” to serve current customers and pursue new opportunities when the economy begins to turn around.
