JSWB establishing presence at two Guangzhou venues

By Thomas Russell -- Furniture Today, April 13, 2009

The Jisheng Wellborn Furniture Group is establishing a presence at two separate venues in this Chinese city starting this September.

JSWB has signed a contract with the Poly World Trade Center to locate a JSWB Home Furnishings Center within the Canton Fair. The six-floor facility, set to open in September, will cover about 1.2 million square feet of retail furniture showroom space.

JSWB also announced it will host a twice-a-year JSWB International Furniture Fair in Guangzhou, also starting in September. The fair, which will occupy about 800,000 square feet of temporary space, will coincide with the China International Furniture Fair each March and September.

JSWB said the venue is at an adjacent exhibition hall at the fair, and that the addition would bring the event to about 2 million square feet of space.

“With a strong focus on well-established Chinese brands that are already having their showrooms with JSWB at other locations, combined with a number of international brands that are currently not exhibiting at the Guangzhou Fair, the JSWB International Furniture Fair is expected to strengthen the position of Guangzhou as the main venue for international furniture fairs in southern China,” the company said in a statement.

Hakon Rydland, the company's executive vice president, will oversee the JSWB International Furniture Fair in Guangzhou and the JSWB International Furniture Fair in Shanghai.

JSWB is one of the largest owners and operators of retail furniture malls in China. According to its Web site, it has locations in Shanghai, Guangzhou and Chang-chun totaling about 2 million square feet of space.

Its Global Home Furnishings Center in Shanghai opened in September 2007 with about 2 million square feet. It is expected to grow to nearly 8 million square feet when completed.

The facility, which houses brands such as Fairmont Designs, Fine Furniture Design & Marketing, Natuzzi, Universal, Alexandre International and Simon Li, is home to the JSWB International Furniture Fair (Shanghai) in September. It is open to the public the rest of the year as a retail venue.
