Company owners Peter and Linda Saloom hoped to discuss how small business and government can collaborate, and hoped to get a better idea of how financial stimulus measures might help their manufacturing business, a company press release said.

Among the officials who visited in late March were U.S. Rep. John W. Olver, D-Amherst, state Sen. Stephen Brewer, Gardner, Mass. Mayor Mark Hawke and representatives from state Sen. Jennifer Flanagan and the Massachusetts Office of Business Development.

Gardner is the town where Saloom's new Gardner Contemporary division is located. The company also is the largest employer in Winchendon, Mass.

"We felt it was important to be proactive in reaching out to these leaders because we take the responsibility for these people's jobs very seriously," said Linda Saloom, business operations manager.

The company also wanted to be aware of support or incentives available to help it grow.

During the meeting, Saloom President Peter Saloom shared the history of the company, which made the first tile top dining table over two decades ago.

He also told the company's plan for the new Gardner Contemporary line, which went from design concept to execution in less than 90 days.

The group also discussed topics including health insurance coverage, investment tax credits and workforce training grants.
