DIRECTORS

HIGH POINTFred L. Schuermann, former president and CEO of Ladd Furniture here, has joined the board of directors of Casco Surfaces Holdings.

Once a part of Akzo-Nobel, Casco is owned by a unit of Deutsche Bank and Harvest Partners of New York, and makes laminate and banding materials for the furniture, flooring and cabinet industries.

Schuermann also serves on the board of retailer Havertys.

EXECUTIVES

Lillian August

NORWALK , Conn.Larry Lieberman has joined Lillian August as general merchandise manager for the five-store specialty home furnishings chain based here.

A 25-year retailing executive, he most recently has been in direct importing and sales for various global manufacturers. He has been a senior executive with ABC Carpet & Home, Macy's East, Macy's West and the former Caldor discount department store.

In his current post, which is new for Lillian August, Lieberman oversees all merchandising and operations functions, and reports to President Dan Weiss and Chief Operating Officer John Weiss.

Wearbest Sil-Tex Mills

GARFIELD , N.J.Tom Notaro has been promoted to the new post of vice president of sales and marketing at fabric supplier Wearbest Sil-Tex Mills.

He was director of sales and marketing. Notaro is responsible for the design, marketing and sales departments.

President Irwin Gasner said Notaro has made changes and brought a breadth of styling talent to the company that has allowed Wearbest to offer a much broader range of product at price points from $6.95 to $29.95.

Bassett Furniture Inds.

BASSETT , Va. —Tom Brockman has been named vice president of wood manufacturing for Bassett Furniture Inds.

He will be responsible for the company's wood division and reports to Keith Sanders, executive vice president of operations.

Brockman has more than 26 years experience in the furniture industry, most recently with Ethan Allen, where he was a vice president overseeing four wood factories in New York and Pennsylvania.

CALABASAS , Calif.Richard K. Ellis has rejoined liquidator Buxbaum Group as executive vice president for new business development.

He was president of CheckPoint, an industrial pumping company he founded in 1993 serving the petroleum and chemical industries. From 1990 to 1993, Ellis was a liquidation manager at Buxbaum, directing sales at a variety of retailers.
