FBI eyes 61 more stores in '04

ST. LOUIS — Furniture Brands International will kick its dedicated store program into higher gear this year with plans to open 61 units in five of its brands.
FBI also might acquire a regional retailer, said Chairman, President and CEO Mickey Holliman. "We're evaluating that as we speak," he said last week.
An acquisition would be one way to gain the retail know-how the manufacturer will need in order to open the stores it plans, "a number" of which will be company-owned, he said. Furniture Brands already owns four stores, Thomasville Home Furnishings units in California.
The company had 191 single-brand stores at the end of last year, most of them dealer owned, and expects to grow to 252 by the end of 2004.
| Brand | Openings in 2004 | Store count at end of 2004 |
|---|---|---|
| Thomasville | 25 | 169 |
| Drexel Heritage | 15 | 53 |
| Lane | 10 | 14 |
| Broyhill | 7 | 10 |
| Henredon | 4 | 6 |
| Total | 61 | 252 |
