Valspar normal after fire
By Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, February 1, 2004
HIGH POINT — Operations have returned to normal at finish supplier Valspar's plant on West English Road here following a fire that broke out Jan. 27 in the lacquer department.
Fire department officials blamed the blaze on a spark from a malfunctioning pump. The fire was confined to a 1,500-square-foot area that makes raw materials for furniture lacquer and sealers. It was extinguished in about 15 minutes. Some 50 second-shift workers were evacuated but returned to work in two hours.
Some shipments were delayed about a half day, said Plant Manager Jeremy Hall. Full production resumed on Jan. 29 and damage was minimal, he said.
