Vegas show sponsors say first run will exceed expectations

LAS VEGAS — This week's first International Furniture & Accessories Marketplace here appears to be exceeding expectations, according to show organizers.
Set for Wednesday through Friday in the Las Vegas Convention Center, IFAM will feature 200 exhibitors, ranging from furniture importers and rug vendors to ready-to-assemble and accessories manufacturers and wholesalers.
"It's extremely wonderful that we will have that many exhibitors for a first-time event," said Cindy Hunter, a director of advertising and marketing for show organizer Bentley International Group. "We simply were on a course and a mission, and we stuck to it and are very pleased."
Exhibitors will occupy about 500,000 square feet of temporary space spread out over one floor of the convention center.
"It's an extremely diverse display of manufacturers and distributors of middle to high end, what's hot and what's new, a unique level of products from both the furniture and home accessories markets," Hunter said.
Officials don't know exactly how many will attend this first market. But Bentley General Manager Shane O'Sheeran said as many as 200 people a day have signed up since registration opened about nine weeks ago. The mix will include retailers such as R.C. Willey and Lowe's plus interior designers and buyers for the contract furnishings business.
The event will be held in conjunction with the Outdoor Living Expo, which features outdoor furniture, lawn and pool products.
Furniture/Today Publisher Joe Carroll will give the keynote address at 8 a.m. Wednesday on "The Changes and Evolution of the Furniture Industry." A networking party will be held at the Las Vegas Hilton from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
