Saxon succeeds Dunn as president of Culp Inc.

High Point — High Point— Culp Inc., a major producer of upholstery fabric and mattress ticking, has made several changes in its senior management team, including the appointment of Fran Saxon as president and chief operating officer.
Howard Dunn, who had been serving as president and chief operating officer, has assumed the new position of vice chairman. He will have executive responsibility for Culp's operations in China in addition to his current involvement in the company's design and product development activities. Dunn was among the founders of Culp in 1972.
Saxon, Culp's new president and chief operating officer, previously served as executive vice president and chief financial officer, as well as president of the Culp Velvets/Prints division. He has been with the company since 1983 and a director since 1987.
Rob Culp, chairman and chief executive officer, said Dunn's leadership and operational skills have been major contributors to the company's success.
"We will continue to benefit from Howard's experience as he takes on his new role," said Culp. "Furthermore, as we make this transition, we are confident in Frank Saxon's ability to assume his new leadership position. Frank's long history with Culp has demonstrated his leadership abilities and the drive and energy to address the key operating issues."
New leaders also were named for the company's various divisions.
Rodney Smith has been named president of the Culp Decorative Fabrics division. Smith joined Culp in 1997 and most recently was senior vice president of CDF and president of the Culp Yarn division. Dunn had been leading the division for some time while it was officially vacant.
Boyd Chumbley assumes the position of president of the Culp Velvets/Prints division. Chumbley joined Culp in 1984 and since 1997, has been vice president of manufacturing for the division.
Robert "Iv" Culp IV has been named president of the Culp Home Fashions division, which is the mattress ticking division. He has been with the company since 1998 and was most recently executive vice president of the CHF division.
Kenneth Bowling has been named vice president-finance and treasurer. Bowling joined Culp in 1987 and since 2002 has been corporate controller and assistant treasurer.
