RICHMOND, British Columbia — Veteran Canadian retailer David Gerstner has been named president of home furnishings importer Hamilton & Spill, succeeding Mick Verjee, who remains CEO.
Gerstner spent 16 years as vice president and general manager of United Furniture Warehouse, the 82-unit high-impact promoter recently acquired by The Brick Warehouse Corp. of Edmonton, Alberta.
He will be based at company headquarters here and will report to Verjee, who will now focus on building the company's global presence. Verjee will be based primarily at its regional headquarters in Hong Kong, where Hamilton & Spill plans to build a furniture showroom in the near future.
"David brings a wealth of business savvy and extensive retail experience to his new role at Hamilton & Spill," Verjee said. "Along with his fresh perspective and people skills, David will be responsible for leading the company to achieve its aggressive plans for growth and increased market share in North America, Mexico and overseas through enhancing the company's corporate infrastructure, systems and service levels."
The company also has an office, showroom and distribution center in Mississauga, Ontario, and a showroom in High Point. Sourcing primarily from Southeast Asia, Hamilton & Spill markets its bedroom, dining and occasional furniture lines to retailers worldwide. Its shipments to U.S. retailers were valued at $20 million last year.
