DWR plans to go public

SAN FRANCISCO — SAN FRANCISCO — Design Within Reach, the multichannel retailer of modern design, is going public and plans to expand.
The company filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission last week for an initial public offering of common stock, to be sold by Design Within Reach and certain stockholders. CIBC World Markets will handle the offering.
In the filing, the company said it had 16 design studios at the end of last year and plans to open 13 to 16 a year in 2004 and 2005. It said it had sales of $81.1 million and net earnings of $3 million in the fiscal year that ended Dec. 27.
