Dan Gomez leaves Mastercraft Interiors
By Clint Engel -- Furniture Today, March 7, 2004
BELTSVILLE, Md. — Dan Gomez, executive vice president of five-store, family-owned Mastercraft Interiors, has resigned after 26 years with the business to pursue new challenges.
Gomez, who founded the high-end Top 100 company in 1977 with his brother, Mastercraft President Doug Gomez, was deeply involved in its growth, including the purchase of Kimel's Furniture in 1988 and later Wellington House Furniture.
In recent years, the company's annual sales have topped $50 million.
He also was instrumental in the development of Mastercraft's operations, facilities and systems, strategic planning and retail site selections, and was an early advocate of taking on key lines including Stickley, Hickory Chair and Brown Jordan, and offering interior design services and drapery sales.
In recent years, he focused on hiring and motivating managers, salespeople and other employees.
Doug Gomez, who remains president, praised Dan's devotion and contributions to the company.
"Dan feels that he has accomplished all he can at Mastercraft and, as neither his son nor daughter is involved in the business, it is time to look for fresh challenges," the company said. Dan Gomez said he has been offered executive positions in the industry, but hasn't decided on anything.
Presently, the company has no plans to name a successor, with the existing management team absorbing Dan's duties.
Doug Gomez will gradually buy Dan's "substantial stake" in the company, Dan Gomez said.
