Cuvée closes after AsiaLink ties dropped
By Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, March 7, 2004
WINTER PARK, Fla. — Chinese manufacturer Cuvée has gone out of business after AsiaLink, a sourcing and product development specialist based here, ended its association with the maker of case goods, occasional and upholstery.
The idea had been that AsiaLink executives Gene Hodges, president and CEO, and Ron Pass, managing director, would handle all product development, sales, merchandising and marketing for Cuvée as the latter moved to build U.S. distribution.
"The marketing strategies and product direction didn't work between the two companies," Hodges said.
Cuvée's owners have decided to fold the company, said Mark Olson, who represented the company in the United States. Cuvée has sold product samples from its former High Point showroom in the Natale Building on English Street, where Cuvée/AsiaLink showed at last October's market.
AsiaLink still is working with its original six Chinese source plants, with bedrooms retailing from $999 to $1,999.
AsiaLink probably won't exhibit at the April market. Showing at markets wasn't a part of AsiaLink's original business model, Hodges said. "Our concept was to directly link retailers with Chinese manufacturers, and vice versa," he said.
