Scott leaving Restonic
By David Perry -- Furniture Today, January 26, 2004
ROSEMONT, Ill. — Industry veteran Ed Scott has resigned as president and chief executive officer of Top 10 bedding producer Restonic.
Scott, 56, said he will remain in his post until a successor is named. He also will serve as a consultant to the company for its international businesses until the transition to new leadership has been completed.
Restonic has formed a search committee to select a new president.
A 26-year veteran of the bedding industry, Scott joined Restonic as president and chief operating officer in August 1995. He was named CEO in 2001.
"My years at Restonic have brought a cohesiveness to the group," he said. "The licensees and shareholders have been the driving force for the changes we have made, and they have made my stay at Restonic as productive as it has been."
Scott said he is resigning because it is time for him to make a professional change. He said his experience with Restonic has been positive, but said he has been doing similar jobs in the bedding industry for many years.
"I plan to take a couple of months off, watch my daughter play softball, and see her senior year in high school," Scott told Furniture/Today. "Then I will think about what I am going to do."
Among the options he is considering is volunteering to work for one of the presidential campaigns.
Scott began his bedding career as a retail bedding buyer in 1978. He joined Sealy in 1981 and moved to Serta in 1989.
Furniture/Today ranked Restonic as the No. 9 bedding producer last year, based on estimated 2002 sales of $92 million.
