Peter Kaufmann, P/Kaufmann founder
NEW YORK — Peter Kaufmann, founder and chairman of decorative fabrics supplier P/Kaufmann Inc., has died. He was 86.
Kaufmann launched the company in 1957, and was widely known for his sense of style and business integrity. His son, Ron Kaufmann, is president of the company.
In 1993, the elder Kaufmann was given the Marvin Rosenberg Citizen of the Industry Award, presented by CHF Inds. in honor of Rosenberg, founder of Cameo Curtains, a one-time division of P/Kaufmann.
Over the years the company acquired the Joseph Woods Co., Western Fabrics, Bloomcraft, Anju/Woodridge, Fabriyaz, which became the Braemore division, and Howard Kaplan Fabrics, now Bloomcraft Home.
P/Kaufmann also established the Folia division to produce fabrics and wall coverings under its Ralph Lauren Home license, and operates Bennettsville Print Works. The company also owns Clarence House, a designer showroom.
In addition to Ron, Peter Kaufmann is survived by his wife, Ruth, a daughter, another son and five grandchildren.

Thomas R. Schloot, Schloot's Furniture
INDIANAPOLIS — Retailer Thomas R. Schloot has died. He was 56.
Schloot was the owner of Schloot's Furniture, which was founded in 1933 by his grandfather, Garrett Schloot. His father, Robert, took over the business in 1937. Schloot took over the business in 1991, following 30 years of working at the store.
He is survived by his wife and two daughters.
Memorials may be made to the children's ministry at First United Methodist Church of Crawfordsville, Ind., to St. Bernard's Catholic Grade School or to Crawfordsville Main Street.
